heard it tonight in my conservatory. very beautiful piece for orchestra and choir. also the solo singers' parts are very enjoyable.

how do you mean?

I study at the cologne "Musikhochschule"and its the biggest of its kind in europe. there are over 1000 people studying and everyone has to play in the orchestra or sing in the choir some semesters.
the line up for mendelssohn is not that huge (still big) but whenI sung in the choir and we did War Requiem by Britten we were about 150 people in the choir. now that was ace! :D

LOL I always struggle to find the equivalent term for "Musikhochschule" in english. :p

nah I think music high school sounds like its a high school for teens. not something where you make a diploma, master or doctor. sounds like "Musik-Gymnasium".
