I was wondering if it is possible to use my EastWest libraries with Halion 3 instead of the Kontakt player? Has anyone done this? If it is possible, what would I lose or gain by doing this.

The libraries are locked into the format, so you can only run them with the Kompakt player or Kontakt.

I've just read that Halion 3 does work with Kontakt sample libraries.

It does, but not with locked samples. East West sample libraries are locked into Kompakt/Kontakt format, so they will only open with those samplers.
