Hi,

I just installed Kontakt 2.2,working with Protools Digi 002 Ver 7.1. on Mac OS X Ver 10.4.8.

In Kontakt there are four midi port options, port A '(from host)'and ports B,C and D are '(not available)' and Protools has 3 available midi ports in the drop down midi output selector for each track.

How do I set-up,for example, port B in one instance of Kontakt to see Protools other available midi ports (ie; track 17 - 32 are assigned to midi port B in Kontakt to access another set of 16 midi channels and so on.?

Hope this makes sense,
Dean.

Hi Dean,

When used as a plugin, Kontakt 2 can only use the first 16 MIDI channels. Each plugin only has one MIDI input port.

Hi Sam,
Kontakts instrument window has a dropdown menu with 4 midi ports so I thought if things were set-up right that I could use port A midi ch 1-16 then switch to port B using midi
ch 1-16 playing a different set of instruments and so on,basically using the same 1-16 midi
channels through different midi ports,so I can load for example 32 instruments into one instance of Kompakt which can be played independantly in an orchestral composition.

Hi Dean,

You cannot control MIDI ports and Audio cards assigned to Kontakt 2 when running as a plugin from within the plugin itself; that is the sole job of the host. Each plugin only gets assigned one port by the host (you can't make 2 different Kontakt 2 items show up in the MIDI out dropdown in Pro Tools by loading just one instance of Kontakt 2), meaning it's limited to 16 channels.

This is one of the ways that standalone Kontakt 2 operation is different than plugin operation. As a standalone application you can change audio card and MIDI settings within Kontakt, allowing you to assign 4 MIDI ports.
