View Full Version : Routing Audio in Kontakt2 with EWQLSO

Hi everyone!

I was wondering how everyone routes the audio for their mixing using Kontakt2 and EWQLSO. I'd especially love to know how Nick Phoenix and others who have demos in the product page route their audio.

For example. I am using Kontakt within Cubase SX3.

Each section of my orchestra is linked to a K2 instrument bank. All my articulations for that section are within that instrument bank.

Each instrument bank has its associated midi number route to Cubase midi tracks.

Initially, all the K2 instrument banks are routed to just one K2 audio output which has its associated VST audio bus in Cubase. This works fine while I am sketching my piece.

However when I am nearing completion and it comes time to automate the mix, is everyone giving each orchestral section its own audio bus and if so are you doing the mixing within Kontakt 2 or within your host sequencer? Or are you setting the audio volume levels within each instrument header inside Kontakt 2 or should I just leave those alone?

Or should I be mixing at the midi volume level and adjust cc7 and/or cc11?

Hi kstevege,

I'm using one K2 instance for each section ( Strings, Brass, Ww, Perc ),
and like you I've organized the sounds in banks.
(The downside of having several K2's opened within (and outside) LOGIC is the
amount of extra RAM .)

Having one K2 for each single section makes it easier to balance the single sections in general.
Of course this is done with Volume control#07.

For balancing single articulations or complete instruments ( Flute , Violins11, etc. ...)
within the arrangement I simply use velocity.
This way you can easily exchange well balanced MIDI-Files between different sessions.

The Final Mix is then completed within an extra ProTools Session.
Therefore I bounce the C/F/S-Mics of each section and the C/F/S-Mics
of each Solo-Instrument to get a clear Mix.

Best regards
