Hello everyone. I am a UK composer who has been using East West Gold for two years and would please like to know how to squeeze OPTIMAL performance out of my system

As a media composer, it is extremely necessary that I have as MANY VSTs PLAYING BACK SIMULTANEOUSLY AS POSSIBLE!! I run 16 simultaneously with an AVI/MOV file opened and suffer massive slowdown.
Computer Specs.
Windows XP
Pentium 4 3.2GHZ processor
2GB RAM
7200 RPM Hard Drive (Rotations Per Min)
Cubsae 5.0- (Audio settings 384Kb memory per channel Disk Block Buffer Size 128)

Preload buffer size, voice buffer size, reserved voices, memory total-what configurations are best for my setup?

I dont want to have to buy a new PC yet so please tell me how I can take advantage of my 32bit system with the current configuration, as well as what to do with the DFD options and settings in East West Gold (Thats not even in the damn manual man!)

PS: This FX Teleport thing-is it possible to ACTUALLY use multiple PCs simultaneously in real time without ANY slowdown/problems?

I would be extremely grateful for assistance, as well as comments!

Im using 16 Kompakt instances simultaneously, with a full orchestral layout, brass, strings, winds and percussion. Id like to have more if it were possible and would rather avoid having to mixdown to audio just so I can squeeze in extra instruments! I should have my writing style hampered by the limitations of a computer! Any advice?

16 Kompakt instances? Amazing... .

4 Gold ProXP Kompakt instances already suffocate my DAW. That is CPU only, while disks are just reading the complete works of Shakespeare or enjoying their stamp-collection.

Specs: Athlon X2 4400+ / Asus A8V DeLuxe / 2Gb intmem / 2x 250Gb Maxtor / Matrox P750 AGP triplehead / 3x 17" Samsung / Tascam FW1804 firewire interface.

There is nothing you can do.

You can't expect the world out of 5 year old hardware.

The only advice, search here for DFD settings, get use to bouncing down and put your audio hardware buffer to 1024 or more.

There isn't much more you can do.

Thats pretty bleak! Just give up? There must be some way to get more out of my PC.....of course Windows Vista will solve the problem, but my computer is only 32bit......hmm.

What kind of DFD settings are you using? I would LOVE to get 16 instances of Kompakt...

Vista will not solve your problem.

Vista is heavier and uses more RAM. You'll get less.

You might be able to get more if you upgrade to Kontakt2. YOu can load more in, it is better with RAM but is a little heavier CPU wise, but not much.
And you get 16 channels per instance.

But, slow downs ect. You are running into the limits of what your CPU can do.
There isn't anything you can do about it. The software uses what it needs.
The software or OS isn't going to make your CPU faster.

Just because you put premium gas in your 190HP car, doesn't mean it is going to make it 250 HP.

CPU's have limits. That is the fact of technology.

Hi there. I am using the Gold library, Symphonic Choirs and Drumkit from Hell (not neccessarily all at once) plus a Roland module. My system is as follows -
2.6 Athlon, 3G Ram, 3 x SATA hard drives, E-Magic sound card and Cubase SX3 with XP home. Soon I will have the cash to do some upgrading but I don't know how best to use it.
Things have come on since I set up this system and presumably I could benefit by upgrading to dual core, SATA 2 and a lot more RAM, but first it seems that I have to get around the RAM limitations set by Cubase and XP. Ideally I would like to have more vst sounds running at once, without having to buy a 2nd computer. This would mean less striping to audio and less filling in with the Roland. Any ideas on the best way to go? Also, if I were to buy EW Platinum, how many sounds could I hope to load before my current set up fell over? Thanks for any help.
