I have noticed this on Spike TV, but now I have noticed it on Discovery Channel. These composers for these networks are getting really lazy by just using nothing but the loops provided in Stormdrum. Nothing is being used, other than the loops. Isn't that against the License Agreement?

Has anyone else noticed this about some TV networks?

No.

I have heard Acid Loops, REX Loops, old Akai loops used over and over though the years.

Nothing new.

Discovery doesn't pay well either and I believe the time frame is really short.

random useless post to follow:

I don't have any loops like that, but I find it cool how you can recognize things that way. :P I know i like trying tp pick out when soemone used EWQL sounds from music i find from other composers online.

ok, ok, i'm leaving.

No really, but yeah, that sounds just stupid. If it's that simple, i'd think they didn't evne hire anyone and just got anyone from their own production team who had some musical interest.

Right after Star Trek, the CSI short TV spot during the previous shows credits? 1 loop from Stormdrum.

I think I'd be a geek if I recognized all the names of the loops provided by Stormdrum.

Agreed.

I started this thread while watching Man vs. Wild. Just about all of the transition music was primarily Stormdrum loops.

I hardly watch TV, so I havn't noticed... that and my wife always mutes all the commercials. :D

I think it is OK to use the loops as long as there are other sounds that would prevent the loop itself from being resampled. If there are voices and sound effects in addition to the loop, then it's not really extractable so the licence is satisfied. If you're hearing the drum loop by itself with no other sounds at all, then yes it breaks the licence agreement.

In the case of the CSI trailer, you do hear maybe a voice saying "CSI next" that's about it. Then it fades back to credit music of ST: Voyager.

Yeah, IIRC, the loop they use for the CSI commercial consists of only the Clone Army loops in the Stormdrum Intakt library. Nothing other than that loop is being used other than the mans voice announcing the show. No other instruments or effects are being used with the music other than that loop.
