Is this what you do for a living?

Is this a hobby of yours that you make money off of?

Is this just a hobby?

I'm really curious what users here do, and what products they use (software/hardware) depending on the options in the poll. If you are a hobbiest, then what do you do for a living?

Thanks guys!
Mike

This poll is missing the option:
"I'm one hardcore musician and composer who can do just about everything musically, but as my dad doesn't work in the business I'm still a hobbyist". :(

One for the hobby team here. Still hoping to one day get to make music for something that might eventually pay something :)

I did it professionally for many years, now I'm back to coding, and music/audio is a hobby again, which I prefer.

well, i guess y*u c*uld say I d* this as a h*bby, but really, my life is music. I'm an artist, mainly a c*mp*ser, and I h*pe and plan that music will be my j*ob, my career, and very successful at it. Right n*w th*ugh, i'm still pretty much a n*b*dy, and I'm studying aer*space engineering, because I plan *n having a family, s* I have t* be resp*nsible and find a career that will supp*rt them well. I might change maj*r though, since i'm realy h*ping that I'll s*meday be a big film c*mp*ser, maybe I should g* for s*mething that's n*t s* intensive and clearly f*r a hard, full-time j*b. S*, if I end up g*ing s*mewhere, i'll pr*bably leave whatever i'd studied in c*llege. I use EWQL S* G*ld, S*nar, and Sibelius.

Where's the realist option: "I make a living as a professional musician but only make a small amount of income by composition alone."

that's my vote....

Just a hobby,

But I'd love to incorporate this creative area with my work... perhaps one day.

I'm in a similar situation... but I sheet music. ;)

I just do the music thing part time though, because I can't say I only have my own *. In my case there is more than one *. :D

Cheers,

My parents investing all the gear in me, so they expect me to make it a business and not a hobby.

I play games for a hobby :)

I'm a graphic designer by trade and wish I was good enough to compose music for films. I definitely spent more on this hobby than I should with any sanity.

Making a living, but tend to do many random composing jobs. Every project I find is very different. Make sure to register with BMI or ASCAP, or your associated country's affiliation. You can receive royalty payments for years from one tv ad alone...

I'm a hobbyist, I don't earn money, I do music for my pleasure.
My day job is network/system computer engineer in the French national education.

WTF???!?!?!?

David? You are not getting paid for what you do?

WHY?

Next attempt, do get paid please.! PLEASE! For the shake of life and existance of life in earth! Otherwise we're all doomed!

tchoyy

Getting paid is a real real mess here in france, I don't know how it works in your country but here, you would smash your face against the wall... And... I'm not a jurist, neither a financial expert.
Moreover, I work for the governement, so I can't have a second private and lucrative activity, I can earn money from the exploitation of my rights but I can't be directly paid by a customer, this would imply that I have an official status, so having a private paid second activity which is prohibed here.
I'm still looking for a solution but after having finally my place well paid and knowing that I would like to buy my house, I won't have the balls to leave my day job, which would let me in a very bad situation...
So this is a reeeeaaaaalll mess...
And now.....with our new president.... :( :( :(

And now.....with our new president.... :( :( :(
Yes... well done on the voters on that...

anyways.

here in the uk one can have as many jobs as he wants (don't know about goverment jobs though). I'm a freelancer and a self employed. It's REALLY EASY to do that in the uk.

Ah well. Find the woman of you life and have you clients pay you woman instead of you... Or something like that. In Greece for tax reasons these things happen to EVERY family. I mean, I own a full house (for example), my mom something else and so on... The president (former one), had nothing in his name and his family was filthy rich! teeheehee... It just works this way in Greece. Can't see how on earth exactly they can be SO blind, but I guess if the goverment benefits from that then...

finally: congrats on the new job and new (chance for a) house!

hmmm... I'll PM you for further details actually!

That said, our new president seems to be friendly with the anglo saxon methods, maybe he could change those laws about multiple activities knowing that his leitmotiv is "Work work work and work more !" :D

I would like to be paid for my music (I guess everyone) but there are a lot of offers and less demands, I also live in (leave...:D ) France !!! And if you're not in, you're out...I think that I would definitely be a hobbist.

Isnīt Greece also said to be the most corrupt country in Europe? :D

In Denmark it's really cool. In comparison with the states, we own the music+the rights when we score a music, due to our great copyright company KODA. Is it the same all over Europe?
