Hey guys,

I have 2 Gb RAM, would like to update to a monster machine soon. People have multiple computers here at times, so Id rather buy a new and powerful beast which can let me work with a lot of midi files and a few VST instruments loaded. 8 Gb RAM. Fast processor. Is this enough or can I get even more RAM? Up to 16 is that correct? Basically, working on large orchestral scores takes up huge memory and I cant just continue to bounce things individually, it takes for ever, plus I do need to hear the overall balance of instruments rather than hearing only one at the time. Im working on a symphonic piece and Im getting old very quickly. Things just get stuck, sounds resetting themselves and I cant hear how the whole piece sounds together.

I wouldnt be able (as a matter of space as well) to place 4 computers in my flat....
Any comments?

Things to consider.

1) your Sequencer has to be 64bit. Currently, only Sonar is to access more than 4 gigs RAM. Most sequencers are still 32bit.
2) The verdict is still out on what a single 64bit machine can do with massive RAM under 64bit.

Processing, 64bit and RAM. Still only about 6 months old really, even though it has been around.
companies are still trying to catch up.

You'll see more of a 64bit world within the next year.

Right now.

Bounce, and deal with it. If you can't put more systems in, then this is your best bet.

Or get something and be the first on the list to test it out for us all.

Thanks LEX

Didnt know about this whole 32 and 64 bit difference. I thought we were much more advanced nowadays ... ;)

We are getting there. But it was only this year when most the companies started to build 64bit drivers.

Universal Audio (UAD) finally came out with a working 64bit version that will work with more than 2 gigs RAM.
That was last month.

Game on by the end of the year.
