Music required: Approx. 30 seconds or less.
Someone intimately familiar with Howard Shores score to the movie "Big".
Client in Florida requires an exact duplicate built of the fortune telling machine "Zoltar" in the movie "Big" starring Tom Hanks.
Music is required to play a FANFARE (Howard Shore like) when the 'player' is given his 'wish' card.
Payment: $10,000 US.
Submit already composed 'fanfare' ish mp3 to AllanLmft@aol.com (submit only ONE track)
The track you submit should be something already in your library that is fanfare like. DO NOT compose the Shore sound -a-like at this time. We will contact you for the job AFTER I listen to ALL mp3's. Cut-off to submit is midnight Sept 23rd Pacific standard time.
Thank you for your time,
Cheers,

So for the submission we should send in something that is like it but not it so that later we can make something that is it?
Why not just submit something that is it now?
I'm confused, man!

We don't want people writing a cue that will not get used or purchased. If you *want* to do a short piece be my guest. However if you have a fanfare to something else - that will do for now as a submission. Later after we pick the 'work for hire' we will work with them to tailor it for the game. We prefer someone who does know the soundtrack as we would like to keep it in that vein. The submission shows us that those submitting understand the proper tonal ballance and something about arrangment and orchestration. We would rather *not* have to work with them to that extent. (This presupposes an excellant handle on East West Orchestral libraries.)
Please feel free to ask any questions that come up before submission.

The *fanfare* may have a slight Gypsy style influence but not much. If you are intimate with the score you will hear that the only real Gypsy style influence is when the game plays. The underscore has no Gypsy style and we are after more of an underscore feel.

Ok
I am interested but need to ask.
The track on the movie Big (88), with Tom hanks, where Zoltan plays, both times in the begining and the end is:
NOT a Fanfare
NOT in gypsy style
It's a rather creepy waltz...
I just need to realise what we're talking about here

That is correct. Their is *no* fanfare in the movie. If you are intimate with the score then you can *create* a fanfare for Zoltar. In other words imagine if Howard SHore wrote a fanfare for when The kid *got his wish*. What would it sound like in the context of the already existing underscore?

Music for world rights tv spots from 30 sec - 1 minute can pay 10-15k. Dont underestimate the amount of work a project like this can entail. As I said this client is extremely picky. They should be - it's their money.
Pay scales are all over the place in this business. This happens to *look* like one of the better ones. Yes - an entire show for say the sci-fi network may have a creative fee equal to what this job pays.
I can not promise that the next job I post will be this good. I may post something next week that says I need 3 minutes of cartoon music for a flat fee of $500.00.
If the work for hire is dissatified with the dollar amount we will gladly take a larger finders fee. ;)
Those suspicious need not apply. More chances for the rest.

It's my pleasure. Over the years Terry has worked with a number of composers. Still does. At times those composers become unavailable or go onto other things. I hope to add to the pool of talent here. I get a good sense from the forum that people here are (for the most part) level headed, hard working, sincere, talented and like to help out others. I get a sense of that from East West themselves. I've good experiences here on this forum and have run into some truely good folks who unselfishly give of their time to help out others.
We won't always agree but that's what makes more 'stimulating conversation".
So far all emails have been very gracious and positive. For those that are so negative and cynical I really cant see how that can go towards helping ones career. It's a small community really and eventually everyone gets to know everyone.
This job is in other forums and job boards but I am hoping that someone here will get the gig. If not there will be more to come.

Sorry no offence meant, Iīm just realistic ! with the going rate at $1000 bucks a minute I just canīt understand why anyone would pay $ 20.000 a minute !!!! i.e. $10.000 for 30 seconds (or less) and from a no name? doesnīt make any business sense at all, so letīs keep it real, if the offer is genuine then super, thankyou Mr Leung and good luck to the happy winner :D

Actually, I've seen this kind of pay for buy outs too, fongi.
Besides, he's not even asking for new music--just if you've got some fanfares laying around, show him what you can do. Personally, it seems more of an interesting exercise to make a fanfare from that waltz--I really like that music.

So to clarify. If the piece I sent you demonstrates good brass, but is dark, and is in a minor key, that's not what you want right?
I didn't know if you were looking for people that could utilize the samples they have to the fullest (realism wise) or if we know how to orchestra a happy fanfare. Because I'd have to write a happy fanfare, but have a dark pieces with blasting horns that sound great to me.
Sorry for the questions.

First a very big THANK YOU to all those that posted music and especially to those that went the extra mile to compose something close. I know that was not following instructions to the letter but sometimes rules get bent in a direction that can benifit those doing the bending.
The job did get awarded to someone but as hard as I pushed for an East West guy/gal it went another way. However THAT said it was REAL close and the top 6 of 25 entrants are listed below. Nathan, you should have purchased this (http://www.hammacher.com/publish/10978.asp?cm_ven=CJ&cm_pla=1781363&cm_ite=Hammacher+Schlemmer&cm_cat=1511450) machine from Hammacher Schlemmer before submitting any music. I bought mine a week before the deadline for only $8,999.95 (plus an extra $500 for s/h). It told me not to participate, so I didn't submit any music. (Always trust guys with a Crystal Ball!) It saved me a lot of work, fortunately. :)
If you think the price of this fortune teller machine is too high, then you should know that it comes with an "Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee", which means that you can get your quarter back, if it turns out that you would have gotten the $10,000.00 gig after all, should you have submitted your music. Sounds fair, doesn't it?
Anyways, it was very kind of Allan to offer this opportunity to our forum. Thanks, Allan!
Please, keep posting these job opportunities here, I am sure Zoltar will allow me to submit next time.

Zoltar.
This is Zoltar, the classic animatronic fortune teller found in arcades, that stands 6 1/2' tall, and augurs a spoken and printed fortune for you. Richly detailed with a handlebar mustache and beard, a gold head wrap, gold shirt, paisley vest, and jewelry, the bust of Zoltar stands in a solid wheeled cabinet of oak with birch veneers, finished in gold-and black-painted trim, and is surrounded by three panes of tempered glass. Zoltar acknowledges your presence and invites you to approach him. Once you insert a quarter (coins may be removed), Zoltar nods his head up and down as his crystal ball illuminates and he sweeps his hand back and forth. Zoltar provides 16 different spoken fortunes and dispenses one of 23 different printed fortunes in the form of a paper card; 2,000 fortune cards are included. The fortune is dispensed from the front of the cabinet.
77" H x 27" W x 25" D. (225 lbs.) $8,999.95 + $500.00 (t)
