While pricing is still not set, the prices mentioned at trade shows since then have been in the $2/gb range. This is substantially cheaper than the Legato portable SSD - 128 gb for $250. It is still a premium of $100 over internal SSD ($150 with cable) but that is a drop from the more typical $200 ($250 with cable) premium.

hello all. Some time ago I decided to buy the sheet music from the soundtrack of Star Wars, written by John Williams. At first I was a little frightened by the complexity of the piece and how to recreate the sound of this wonderful jewel. However, having under my fingers the beauty of libraries like Hollywood Strings, Brass and Symphonic Orchestra Hollywood I plucked up courage (mostly because I enjoyed it) and I started to recreate the song. It 's just the beginning, but I think is not bad at all.
Let me know what you think .... and if this is the case for you to carry it out (I think so!)

Hi All,

I haven't been here for a while and am always amazed at the wonderful music that I hear.
I suppose I shouldn't really post this as none of the instruments used were EW's. (I do usually use EW)
This was part of a project of Piano and String pieces I'm doing for a library.
All my Receptors are down so I'm having to work in my PC( XP 3 Gig Ram) with my less RAM intensive VST's.

http://soundcloud.com/atog-1/farewell/s-wX42N

The Piano is NI Akoustik Bosendorf.
The Strings including the Violin are GPO apart form the Basses which are VSL in Kontakt 4.5.
The Reverb is GPO Ambience, Cathedral setting.
Cubase 4.5

One thing I will say about GPO's sus-short string patches is that they are so intuitive. Especially when using the mod wheel(volume/expression) in combination with the sustain(legato) pedal as you write/record.

Anyway any feedback on the piece and the above greatly appreciated as always.
Since I'm not into rock music, abhor the Beatles, and am not a fan of Enya's :p, here's what I'm planning on getting:

-SO Platinum
-SC
-Pianos Gold
-SD2
-RA
-Silk
-Gypsy

Is there any reason I should consider exchanging one of these for Goliath, since it seems that most of Goliath's instruments are represented in one of these packs (in more detail no doubt)? With the advent of SO and the Hollywood Series, does Goliath still benefit you guys as much as something like Stormdrum, Gypsy or Silk?

How are you guys liking the 5 mics in the HW series as compared to the original ewqlo 3 mic setup. I really got spoiled by the hall mics in the ewqlo. Are you finding you must use artificial reverb?? I wish there were demos of the each mic position.

In my exampleI want to create a Cello part that is legato with occasional portamento slides. I have chosen Celli Legato Port LT 6. However its not playing back the way I have it in my head:

1. Every note interval is sliding into the next, I only want occasional slides. In other libraries you choose a Legato patch and the slides are triggered only when notes overlap. How do you do this in Hollywood?

2. None of the Portamento patches have vibrato, can this be added and if so using what control?

I know a smart ass is bound to say RTFM, I have and cannot find this covered!

I have several other libraries and their Legato is very easy to use. However I much prefer the slides in Hollywood, especially on the Cellos

I have been using SO for long time, and have just recently added HS, with the intention of fully utilizing the strings from both old and new libraries. I can imagine doing this as combined layers together, and/or as switching alternatively using either one or the other for different musical needs.

It seems that others here have already done so and found what "best of both" to combine strings from SO and HS and how to make them work together as complimentary to each other. Please post some tips you have figured out for which to use when or even layering them together or whatever you do to use strings from BOTH SO AND HS to greatest advantage.

What ways of using both together have you found to work nicely in this regard?

What ways of using this combination of string libs have you tried that did not work out as well as you expected?

Experiences of those who got there earlier are great help to those of us catching up now.
