Awesome. I loved his song for Quantum of Solace. Great guitar sounds and cool orchestration.

Not a fan myself. Thought it was mostly unlistenable crap (like most of his stuff). Another example of Hollywood thinking it's a good idea to get a marginally talented Rock Star to be a film composer. And a remake of a 4th rate TV show at that! Hah- ![]() More weak forgettable crap on the way... k |

Hey pkm-
Well I did say "Thought it was mostly unlistenable crap", implying "IMO" (The Great Qualifier )But.. I do have a series of Charts and Graphs demonstrating w/o a shadow of a doubt that Jack White's Music IS unlistenable crap. This is not mere opinion, but can be proven mathematically. ![]() Actually, I just don't share that garage aesthetic that I hear everywhere now. Seems like a lot of out of tune caterwauling on that duet w/ Alicia Keys. Anyone w/ a mic in a Garage can do exactly that. Maybe that's the point. Didn't care for Reznor's attempts at film music either. I'm personally never satisfied by overused cliches. This in fact seems to be more and more of what the industry is based on. Not a cliche? Can't use it. Next... Ken |

Dude-
I am very calm at all times. Just calmly stating that Crap is Crap. (Thought there was some obvious humor there too..) Just partaking in the discussion from a contrary perspective. Better not to have a different opinion eh?... ![]() BTW- I checked out a couple of your reels. You have some genuine skill, serious writing chops. Do you think Reznor or Black can do what you do? I don't. I think 2/3rds of the people posting on this board are way ahead of those rock stars. People think "Hollywood" is watching, and are hesitant to speak their minds here. Imho, continuous suck-ass agreement w/ everything is not good for moving the Art forward. The Craft has become "Diluted by Committee" for so long now, that it's now acceptable for someone with very minimal music chops to "score" a film. As both a skilled composer and intelligent movie goer- I object to that trend. Sorry, but if someone hands me a glass of water w/ a turd in it, I'm going to say, "Excuse me, there's a turd in here." To me that's calmly expressing a view point. Contrary opinions expressed respectfully make for good discussion. k Last edited by KenK; 04-29-2012 at 09:59 AM. |

I'm in agreement with "KenK" that Hollywood is just using more saleable people as composers rather than composers. But that said some do a good job, Johnny Greenwood from Radio Head did the score for "There will be blood" and did a bloody good job at it.
Also Jack White might have put the work in and god the commission through perfectly innocent means as well. But until I'm that successful I'm going to keep complaining :P
