Default Sorry-another newby

I have read the entire EW choirs WB Manual but still don't know the work flow. Do I type the entire lyrics in first, then send the melody to be sung? And to access the help where on the Play UI is a button for help? The install went well and the manuals are in the Mac's EW folder in the folder 'Documentation",is that the right place to have them? It would seem so from the read me doc. I have tried clicking on names on the UI but still no help. Anyone know how to do these things? I am using Play as plug in in Logic Pro 9.1.5, OS 10.5-Sunday I install Snow Leopard on both iMac and MBP so extra RAM will soon be available in 64-bit.

I don't know if the Help button ever worked, so don't rely on that. The manual is all I know. Anyway, here are the steps.
1. Create a new track with a software instrument
2. Set that instrument to Play
3. In Play, go to the "Browser", then the Choirs, then Multis, and pick one (e.g. Altos WB > ALTO WB SOFT MOD.ewi). "Add" it.
4. Then switch back to the "Player". There you should see a button "WORDBUILDER" in the top left. Click on it.
5. Enter a phrase (Hallelujah comes standard, and there is a menu with phrases on the right).
6. Now make sure the track is selected, and play a few notes on a MIDI keyboard.
If everything is allright, you should hear different syllables for each note you play.

Thanks Theo, I don't hear anything when using the keyboard, but I seem to remember setting Play up to recieve MIDI from Logic, could that be why the keyboard doesn't do as you said, its also an old M-Audio that doesn't send certain CC's out, I have had issues with it before. I don't play keyboards I play a breath controller[Akaki EWI4000, so the melody to be sung is on a single track of one region, and if I understood the Manual right I will at some point send the .mid file on that track to Wordbuilder and WB will place the syllables on the right notes [ if I have done it right]
Do you know how I should change the MIDI in settings to get what you describe?

I came back to the forum to report that playing the track with cycle on one word works to hear the text, I fear I allowed Logic to repeat the melody and so the reset to the beginning doesn't always bring up the first word of the text,I must check in the manual about removing the melody and re-entering it again.

I am back again, somehow cycling the track turnedon the midi keyboard [ I said it has issues ] but hearing the first bar [one word=misero ] makes it easy to play with the controls. But I not been able to find the manual section that describes entering the melody again-you don't happen to know that?

Which version of Play are you using? If you're at 2 or 3, you shouldn't have to use the external WB application, nor do anything complex with MIDI settings. It's all in the same plugin.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying, but the melody is entered with MIDI notes in the track that contains the plugin (make sure the track is set to channel 1). So you can either create a a melody using the score editor or the piano roll, or record something using a MIDI device.

But you hear notes when you play something on the keyboard, but not with the breath controller?

Hi again Theo, I have Play 3 and WB is in the player now. I found the passage in the manual where "learn" starts by opening a window to play the melody into. I don't remember how I did it the first time but now, with the same set up, I can't get to use the start button in Logic to play the track with the sopranos melody on it. I tried exporting the track as a MIDI file in a Quicktime player and had it ready where I could hit its start button but Play said"This is not a valid file". The problem is that when the learn window is open the logic UI is not responding, that is normal for Logic, I have other large plug ins that, when the UI os open Logic controls are also frozen. I will send a Tech help request and see what they say. I haven't even tried the breath controller, it works inside logic so it would likely be frozen as well. I will send that Tech support email now and then it is time to leave for work.

Hi,

I've made a very simple thing with just a sopranos line. Start playing it (at bar 7 I think) and see what happens. https://www.box.com/s/0a066c103e8c1a2097bd

Thanks again Theo, I have moved up to 10.6.8, but made a fatal error advised by someone I know who until now gave correct advice-he told me the SL installer would allow me to restore files from ANY external HD, it won't,it only allows resting from internal [ in my case that contains duplicates and old apps that I wasted money on and so only keep them to continue asking their Tech help for reasons why the app can't do what it claims, Smart Score Pro is a good example, don't buy that if you ever want to scan image score files and turn them into .pdf files] or Time machine, that restored my iMac to what it looked like in Nov. 2011,hence the Play 2 stand alones. So I don't know yet if my iMac will even work, it couldn't find the DiscImageMounter.app, so it is in pretty bad shape after the restore. The only good thing that came from the restore was the old Play 2 stand alone versions, and EW says I may keep and use both stand alone and Plugin versions, but warned me they had heard that bidule doesn't support Play,I am going to post a new question on this forum to see if anyone here has had success with Play and bidule. As soon as I can I will try your Messiah choir fragment. EW Tech also helped a lot by telling me something important that apparently isn't in the manual or the install 'read me', WB plugin will appear automatically when a choirs Multi is loaded, and they were right, also Play when in learn mode can't start playback, they even said how to get it back to a staring point-erase the text, exit learn mode, and start with a new instance of Play . more later, or if you are tired of me just say you will be gone for a while and I won't bother you anymore.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say, but I gather that your mac is in a bad state.

I can tell you that Play 3 works well in Bidule. I've switched over to using Bidule instead of hosting everything in Logic. In Bidule, you can use either the VST or the AU plugin. The choir works better for me in Bidule than in Logic.

BTW, I'm Dutch; if you prefer, we could continue in Dutch (private messages, or email).

Bedankt Theo, I think for the other members it would be best to stay in english, they may get some info they need from your great knowledge of Play. My SL set up seems to be working except that when I open a logic song that has Play 3 in it I get a warning that Play 3 can't be opened. I think there is info about re-authorizing on the downloads page, I will check that out. I saw on the Yahoo Logic users Group that jay Asher had written about bidule in his book about Logic pro 9 so I have ordered a copy. I am greatly relieved to hear that you use bidule,so be ready for some questions, when it fails to open the 32bit Bridge opens first, should that be happening? i am getting the Mac straightened out slowly since all the files are mixed up, maybe that is why Play 3 can't open, but I do seem to recall a need to re authorize after a system upgrade, strange then that the old copies of choirs and WB stand alones still open-I didn't try them so maybe I a being fooled by the simple fact that clicking on their icons opens their UI's.

I live in Amsterdam, woont U in de buurt van A'dam? mijn email adres is mings@xs4all.nl feel free to contact me that way if you like.
