Cheep Sampler Player?

This has absolutely nothing to do with EW products (which I guess I am in the right place then). I have Kontakt 5 -- love it. It is great for editing, but I use it mostly to create and playback my own samples. Sometimes I use it for live performance.

So, a friend of mine needs something similar -- a sampler player that has the ability to assign his own samples (wav files) to a midi keyboard and play them back live. He also can't afford Kontakt 5. Kontakt Player is free, but it does not play third-party samples. Is there a cheep/free ampler player that will do this? No need for an included library for editing functions. Just a strait-up player.
