Default Using External SSD for PLAY

I will be upgrading my system to a 2018 mac mini.
Internal drive will be for apps and documents.
I will need to stream samples from external drives.
Is anyone using external SSDs for samples?
Looking for the best option.

I only use external ssd for sample streaming. Dont buy the expensive pci or m.2 drives, Play nor Kontakt takes advance of the super fast band wide ...yet...
I tried an espensive Intel 750 and was quite disappointed. Maybe the load time was 8- 10% faster but the total streaming did not surpass what and Sata 3 SSD is capable of. Anyway, I have good experience with Samsung evo 850 and 860, also Crucial mx500 but I believe there are many other good SSD out there. Use an external enclosures with USB 3 or thunderbolt, depending on your computer. The best part with SSD is that they are silent :-).

I'm running 3 SSDs in RAID 0 via Thunderbolt for sample streaming. But Play don't support setting Sample Cache levels with RAIDs.

I'm using the BlackMagic Multidock with 4 SSDs, one for OS and 3 for samples.

I can also recommend the Akitio Thunder3 Quad X if you are using Thunderbolt 3. You can put HDDs and SSDs in it and connect up to 4 drives with just one Thunderbolt cable.

I use a Samsung T1, though I'd recommend the newer T5.
The prices have really come down on those over the years.
