Hi there.
I'm a long time follower, first time poster. This is a the results of a web series I've been working on for the past 4 years. Written/Directed/Produced/Edited and scored using Symphonic Orchestra Platinum plus Edition and StormDrums 2. Even though it's my first time scoring and mixing, all comments, good and bad will be greatly appreciated. http://youtu.be/sfTm48_qzR4 |

I liked it. You've provided some necessary mood for the images, and obtained a decent sound. The music connects to the listener's expectation. Personally, I'd like a bit more melody: e.g., I'd like to hear more of the part where she climbs the wall. But that's my taste. I've written down my feeling/thoughts while watching:
0:08: Music is too full, especially with non-melodic elements. Less can be more in this case. 0:24: The music is too loud; the celesta is too repetitive. 0:50: I like the way that the music fades and releases the tension a bit 1:06: Possibly too full. There is too much tension. You might want to build up a bit slower. 1:22: The harp implies magic or magical realism (turns out to be the case). 1:25: The bass line shouldn't play all the time. 1:50: Nice going. The harp proves the viewer's suspicion, although I would not have used a major third. The melody reminds me of movies and series of the 60s. 2:00: I'd expected a short break to go along with the short doubt of the pursuer. 2:25: The tone holds too long. 3:07: Timing seems wrong. Ok, that seems a bit harsh, but don't take it badly. I think you've done quite well.

Theo thank you.
I truly appreciate the time that you have clearly given in reviewing the music for my film. I have to say that I'm inclined to agree with you in some cases. Funny you should mention the melody when 'Esther' climbs the wall. That melody is actually the main theme for the whole show. This is the first time that the theme is introduced. Throughout the story the theme gets developed. I can see what you are saying about the music appearing full/dense in some parts and it is something that I will definitely bare in mind for the future. Once again, thank you for your insightful comments. Ricardo |
