Hello everyone!
I'm Dim(itri) and I've jumped into this wonderful world of mockup things and music "production". Indeed, production with between " " ...cause i've only started to gather some audio/producing equipment since about 2 months, in order to get some music recorded at home. My musical "career" (those " " again :-)) began about 3 years ago. I've always been dreaming about playing the piano; to make a long story short, one day at the age of 32, i stepped out of bed and deciced I needed to get an instrument. My biggest question was not how getting an instrument - you just go to a shop right - but how to start learning and playing music. So I've found a piano teacher for my weekly private course. I've followed lessons for about 1 year... well time schedules working/music is difficult. Finding teachers who want to teach you as of 7pm or on the weekends in very very hard here. I've always been fascinated by the piano (passively, listing to a lot of piano performances, live and on cd), but since I actively used it to make some music, it has become sort of a passion, really. As n00b in the pianoworld, I found it very hard to get information about the instrument in all it's aspects: the piano, inside, outside, piano players, sheetmusic, courses, teaching, where do you start as an adult etc etc... so I decided to make a platform for all (Belgian) piano players, (my website, see my profile). It's not linked to any commercial thing, just wanted to put the right info in one central point, for anyone needing info about this wonderful instrument. It's tough to keep it updated though,,,certainly because my spare time is now being taken with "creating" music. (which is a lot more fun! )Nexto to that, we're also into high end audio a bit.... well, whatever high end may be, what's in a name right?! Now that i've discovered "studio gear", it seems to me this equipment is more "honest" (less marketing etc), i mean, what you pay for is what you get? Whilst in hifiland, that's not always true... My favorite music genres are classical music and movie soundtracks. Like I said, since about 2 months, i've been checking out on how to record the music i've been playing on the piano. In that way, I did some research re equipment necessary in order to do that etc; so know i have a digital piano again, a midi controller, daw (cubase) and some monitors/audio interface to get me started. I'm still in the absolute n00b stage, learing to get to know cubase, how to mix etc... but I can tell already, a new world opened, i'm surprised about everything you can do with these digital setups I've been reading a lot lately on how to compose music etc... 2 b short again, although I'm a big soundtrack fan and I did hear about Nick Phoenix and Thomas Bergersen, It never came up to be to get to know these guys a bit better, I mean, like I know Williams, Goldsmith, Powell, Badelt etc.. I AM ASHAMED! This music is what I've been searching for! Epic, big, the new Mahler's have arrived :-) Better late than never, I guess, so those two guys, eventually brought me to the eastwest company and well... as of now, i'm putting the money aside to get those products (and a new computer ); this is just amazing! In the meanwhile, i'm taking the time to get into composing a bit, mixing and mastering. This is really something i've missed before, should have been on track a long time ago..but well... Discovering all these nice compositions in the music cafe on this site is just terrific. Such great compositions -some of them hardly known to the outside world- tops! Lately, and as a first try out in arranging some music, i joined a music "game": the purpose is to take any song from the top 150 (pop/rock) charts on a specific day, pick a random track and 'cover' it. No rules: you can cover the song and do with it whatever you want to do with it. The first track which was selected is this tacata - tacabra. It's a new "summer hit" here, I never heard about it until now, hum ![]() Now, my arrangement on youtube, can be found here. This is my first recording with cubase. The basic track (piano thingy) was recorded in one go, on a yamaha clavinova, hence the playing errors and different parts (I needed to activate/deactivate instruments and well my brain is not following fast enough yet ). Later on I added some strings, synth, percussion sound (kontakt library). Track was not mixed, mastered... really don't know yet how to start with this, will do that afterwards when I've played around with mixing a bit. Now... here comes the clue. I discovered the Two Steps from Hell track "Dragon Rider"... listen in the background, was Tacabra also riding a dragon...? ![]() Anyhow, i've been through this forum and already took up some great info re mixing etc. I hope that, in the near future, I'll be able to share my stuff, (better) composed with eastwest samples, which i'm currently discovering through you guys! thanks for that! cheerz! |
