To all you people using both:
What sort of reverb settings do you find blends the piano with the orchestra? What do you have set up as your default piano template when including 290 with SO in your compositions? |

You have to pretty much play around with everything until you find a setting which suits your music.
For me, I like reverb... Lots of it. I set my piano to a heavy reverb but for the orchestra, you can do away with the reverb tails included in Platinum or just add a slight Grand Hall reverb. Try not to clash too many instruments at once as it will make the piano sound softer than usual as well as take away the Piano's 'sound'. Another thing would be to tweak their individual volumes... Just some suggestions.

There's a fairly recent thread about which IRs (for reverb) blend well with the hall characteristics used in the sampling of SO - perhaps that would help?
Sorry if this is obvious ... If you want the piano to sound far away, don't use a setting with a wide stereo spread, because adding reverb to that will likely sound like you're near the piano but in a very reverberent space - and that might be inconsistent with the ambience of the orchestra. In other words, avoid giving out conflicting signals about distance and about the space the instruments are in. |
