hi
I have symphonic orchestra silver edition, I have had it for a while and used it, but in a very clumsy I-don't-really-know-how-to-use-it manner. It is a legal copy, and I have read the manual from cover to cover. The manual seems to spend alot of time telling you what it CAN do, but not much time on HOW to do it. I am experienced in music with many platinum disks etc.. (mostly authentic instruments, some electronic) My main problem is that I don't understand how to get the most out of the kontakt interface. for example (but not limited to): I find no explanation on how to mix between various sets of microphones. I find no information on how to switch between instruments on the fly within a multi-insrument It talks about first second and third "keyswitches" but doesn't say what they are or rather, how to use them It says things like "when you load a multi you get three programs (close full and surround) Each instrument or section also has three folders entitled C, F, or S." but its not obvious to me where these options are. When I load a multi it just comes up with a whole lot of instruments that all play on top of each other (unless you solo one), with no options for C, F or S, and no folders.. etc.. it talks about "keyswitch" nkm files but does not explain how to use them, where to find them etc.. etc etc etc.. anyway, in conlusion I am totally new to this software, I love the sounds but it is not obvious to me how to use the software in a ergonmical way, as the manual seems to assume I should already know how to do this So are there any tutorial pages/videos/files anywhere? or are there any sample files (not audio samples but project samples)? I use logic mostly, I have spent an hour or so looking through this forum but everyone seems to assume that everyone should know how to use the interface and how to understand the lingo associated with it. Thanks alot for your time and help narco Last edited by narco; 01-25-2008 at 11:39 PM. |

Kontakt of Kompakt? Most people I know who are still getting used to the library use the included Kompakt sampler until they feel limited by it, for different reasons, and then load the samples into Kontakt. Kompakt should keep things very simple and straight forward, especially for new users or people still getting to know the interface.
Anyways, first concern is the multi microphones, this is a feature that is associated with the Platinum Libraries of EWQLSO, the Silver edition does not include this function. It is a basic more stripped down version of the library using different types of samples than that of Platinum. So don't worry about multiple mic mixing at this point. However, later when you feel more comfortable with the library and supporting interfaces of it (Kompakt, Kontakt, and soon to be Play) you can upgrade to the Platinum edition which offers three different mic positions for the samples. As far as switching instruments goes, the purpose of a multi is to load numerous instruments at once. To switch "on the fly" most people associate individual channels to each different sample set and then have different tracks set up in their host audio program with the corresponding channel. Not only does this allow fast switching between instruments, but different instruments can be playing independantly of each other rather than just having them all set at once giving a huge layer to one track. Keyswitches are usually used to change the articulation of a certain sample set (IE you can hit a certain keyswitch and every note following that keyswitch may be played as a trill, staccato, pizzicato, spiccato, sustained, vibrato, etc. ). There aren't that many keyswitches in the Silver library if I recall correctly, only about 2 or 3 per set, but you can find them by viewing patches that are either marked KS or keyswitch. Keyswitches are usually located in the lower range. Good luck with the program, there's a lot to learn in it. Last edited by Hyler; 01-25-2008 at 11:52 PM. |

thanks for you reply
sorry I meant the included player, kompakt (I am thinking about buying kontakt too tho, now that you mention it, although I read somewhere the new version doesn't work with this product) The manual says "there are three different stereo perspectives of each and every note in this library", I read that as meaning even the silver library too. If not I guess I can live with that for now.. thankyou, I don't think the manual was clear in pointing out the the lack of features in the silver edition, it reads as if they are throughout the range. pardon my ignorance but, you say "a patch marked KS", where do I find these patches? the manual has no entry for "patch" in the index. In the interface I only seem to be able to open Multis or Instruments, none of them seem to have any "KS" or "key switching" mentioned. The logic "load setting" finds nothing openable.. thanks for your help, I realise I am ignorant of the basics here narco Last edited by narco; 01-26-2008 at 12:11 AM. |

From what you say about the manual, you may have the old manual, which is pretty basic. The newer manual describes things in a lot more detail.
Here is a link to the manual as a PDF from the EastWest website. If you do not have the version in the PDF, then definitely save it to your local computer and maybe even print it out. http://www.soundsonline.com/static/d..._XP_Manual.pdf |

Now, when I said to look for Keyswitches, Keysw, or KS on patches, that would mean you do the same thing, select the drop down menu, select something like 10 Cellos -> F VCS KEYSWITCH |
