Lightbulb Tutorial 1 - How to setup EWQLSO Platinum for easy realtime mixing in Cubase

Hello everyone,

I thought some of my tricks or simply parts of my workflow could be useful to some of you, so I decided to share it. I have created my first tutorial (which I'm pretty proud of, heh) and uploaded to my website:

www.piotrmusial.com
(go to tutorials section)

This time I'm talking about how to setup Platinum for easy realtime mixing in Cubase (but it surely gives an idea, how to do it in other popular sequencer). You want to control C,F or S mic level of the whole instruments section (ie. strings) with one slider? No problem, come and see how to do it in an easy way

Hope you'll find it useful. I have some more ideas to share, so if you like this first tutorial, it won't be the last one.

- Piotr

PS. If something's not clear, let me know.

"often bringing you a headake"

LOL - it's actually headache

Wow - I can tell you put a good deal of work into this. I think it's cool when people share their experiences and tips to try and help others. It says alot about the person's character. I tip my hat to you.

My Cubase workflow is very different; not to say it's better - just different. maybe one day when I have time I will share.

Good job, Piotr.

This is excellent, and much appreciated... I just picked up Platinum and I use Cubase, so your tutorial comes at a perfect time for me to experiment with mixing the different mics! Thank you for taking the time to set up this tutorial and share your knowledge; I hope you inspire others to do the same!

Thanks guys, I'm glad you find it useful

I know, many people are not really working on all mics at once and are using F mics for composing, then additional for mixing or are freezing tracks to load more instruments. It's not working for me though, I've proven (myself) that my compositions sound much better mixed while composing (not in postprocessing) and mixing goes easier step by step and has time to grow up in the composing process (many things are changed in time). Just the way I prefer it. Sometimes though, I wish to change something to the whole section - and that's where this tutorial comes in.

I'm planning to release one tutorial every week, so stay tuned

- Piotr

PS. "Headake" is now fixed

Piotr, not useful to me (I know everything! *) but it does seem useful to the rest of the commoners!

Nikolas

Hi Piotr ,

although I'm a LOGIC-guy your tutorial is quite interesting for me and helps me
to get a kind of insight into the workflow of Cubase.

So , thanks for sharing this .

Cheers ,

Gerd

I wouldn't imagine this would have been too hard to figure out on one's own (I know I didn't have any issues), but it is awesome to have a nice reference for people who don't have the time or patience to learn this own their own.

Unfortunately, many peoples computers simply aren't strong enough not to freeze things. My composition goes about like this- work in full, bounce, then bounce close and surround. HOPEFULLY that will be changing soon, as I COMPLETELY agree with you about bouncing being bad for the creative flow and editing ability.

rimskykorsakov - I'm a Cubase guy, but decided to switch to Logic 8 recently (haven't got it yet though). Hopefully it won't be to hard to remap the way my mind thinks about projects.

Great tutorial ! It's nice to see how other people work in the same software environment. Wish I could see others set up and work flow in Cubase, maybe with play engine this time.

Great job !
