After posting my orchestral Britney Spears remix, I thought I'd try something a tad more 'traditional' in the film scoring sense.
It's very 'work in progress' at the mo - I need to alter some dynamics, tweak the spicc strings etc, but the majority of it is as you hear. I'm looking for any helpful critiques really - harmony, rhythm, structure, orchestration, use of samples etc. The way I use the samples (EWQLSO SILVER) is to outline a piano track of what will happen, flesh this out with orchestral sounds, and eventually mute the piano. I think the absence of Stormdrum is painfully obvious - I'm a poor wee student so I can't afford any other samples! The percussion I have used is rushed, and in my opinion very poor. I like the general sound of the track, but hopefully some of you will be able to help me improve technique, mixing, or any other points I may have missed. Maybe I should score in Sibelius and tweak in Logic instead? Maybe I should just crawl into a hole and implode... You decide! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/wilx_music.htm 'Into the Breach' is the track. |

Works for me...

Interesting. It's definitely got that Hans Zimmer/Harry Gregson-Williams vibe going on.
A couple of things I noticed: The snares at the beginning sounds a bit busy and distract from the strings, especially with the varying use of drumrolls. Starting off with a more consistant rhythm and then developing it later in the piece could ease the listener in. Also, in the latter half you could really do with giving the strings a more aggressive attack. Since each note is so brief it sounds like they're ending before they've matured. Other than that it's coming along nicely. Last edited by Daigohji; 07-22-2005 at 03:25 PM. |

Great - thanks for the feedback people. I never expected it to sound like Zimmer - honestly...!
Ah, sod it - I was listening to Gladiator just before I started! I'll tweak the percussion and strings when I get the chance in a couple of days. Ta. |
