With RME's Hammerfall series (which RME 9632 is a part of) as well as some others like some of the EMU's series, you will have no problem looping back - it is a one-click procedure and about as simple as it gets, even if the GUI of the card's mixer isn't the simplest thing in the world to find your way around.

The looback capability is one of the biggest advantages of RME's Hammerfall series when it comes to ITB (in-the-box) musicianship like sample-based computing, but when it comes to the rest, you can find cards with more use for sample mockups and save money.
Does anybody else get popping and crackling during their audio playback when doing loopback internally with the FireFace 400? If so, have you got a workaround?

The way I've been able to work around this is to loopback the audio with a physical cable with my RME FireFace 400. I use ASIO4ALL as PLAY's audio driver in this case, and the RME driver in my host.

It seems the problem occurs when I use the RME driver in both PLAY and my host.

Is it true that ASIO4ALL can only drive one app at a time?
Any insight would be appreciated.

BTW: There is a good discussion about this on the RME Forum that I've just found. I've posted a reply there too.

Default Other motherboard suggestion????

Wow. Can't believe how perfect the timing was for this thorough fleshing out of the 64bit thing. I'm piecing together a new system now- anybody got suggestions about a good motherboard with a proven track record of running XP 64 AND audio production? I'm using SONAR. Would appreciate any leads...

Default Question About Your Articles: 64 Bit System and Play

Hi,

Great article and got me thinking.

I am running an AMD Dual Core 6000+ and Macpro 2.66 Dual Core. My Play Platinum Orchestra runs great on my Mac but on my PC it is unusable.

I am running the AMD on home XP and thought that if I installed the XP64 System on my AMD, Play would run great as its not taking advantage of the dual cores under XP home. Also Play has the software to work on 64bit.
My soundcard, Motu 2408 also is 64 bit ready.

Do you think installing XP64 will make Play work better and is it worth all the effort to change systems.

Thanks,

JB
