Topaz:

On top of what everyone has already said, think about this: if you have an issue with one of your libraries not working as you think it should, do you want to talk to two companies - one perhaps pointing the finger at the other, or perhaps not responding at all - or do you want to be able to have one guy that you can talk to?

For me, that is the Number One reason for upgrading to the Play engine, in addition to the great online community and support I get here. To be sure, I like Native Instruments and their libraries, but in the end of the day, I have to be sure that my libraries will continue to work in the distant future. That has no price ticket for me personally.

Peter

I've been a long-time purchase of East West sounds, starting with the EWQLSO Gold offer in 1994. It was a good marketing decision by them, as I proceeded to purchase and fall in love with quite a few other libraries of theirs, RealGuitar, Garriton personal orchestra, etc, all in service to scratching the itch to do real music composition that doesn't sound like someone's toy MIDI piano.

Last week I made the choice to go ahead and upgrade on this special offer. It saves me a bit more money than most folks since I chose to upgrade both my Silver and Gold libraries.

I also made the choice to trust that PLAY will work in 32-bit mode as an embedded instrument within Sibelius 5.1 or 5.2, knowing that if it doesn't I can also switch to virtual midi cables, Sonar, or something equally practical but slightly less convenient, until my two favorite music product vendors make it work together.

A customer needs to be able to ask about a new product without being jumped on from all angles.

I will take my questions over to KVR where one seems to be able to talk about the ruff and the smooth, as things should be on a forum.

I love East West products and own both RA (that I payed full price for when it was first released) and Gold Plus Bundle and am strongly considering upgrading to platinum plus amoung other libraries by EW.

If I walk into a showroom and ask what are the advantages of upgrading my Lexus to a new hybrid can you imagine how I would feel if the sales person said "don't buy it if you are happy with your current car" or "stop complaining about the new price"

Hi Topaz. You will definitley have a more unbiased opinion at KVR AND I'd like to also recommend Virtual Instruments Magazines forum as well: http://www.VImag.net/

Good luck!

well it is time to bump this old thread, it seems that play does no handle resources as well as kontakt3, play is actually using about 20 to 40 % more cpu with the same sounds loaded.

hopefully the coders can fix this problem.

K3 is good but im dissapointed with Native Instruments ORGANIZATIONAL abilities. It seems that they took away being able to name your own quickloads when they came out with K3. Organization is soooooo important when you have mega libraries.

Other than that - running nicely...

Allan - tell me you like the K3 GUI better than that of K2. Go ahead - I dare you.

Kontakt is pretty lifeless. Maybe its a german thing...

(maybe minimalism is a better descriptive?)

Play simply sounds better to me than Kontakt... not sure how its possible but it just sounds clearer and more defined... going back to Kontakt seems cold when I listen to the same thing. The master patches make the big difference for me though, its exactly what I wanted out of the old version of the orchestra.

I have no issues with sound, indeed play looks and sounds great.

it just doesn't perform as well as kontakt (on my system at least) and crashes more.
