Good afternoon everyone:
Greetings from sunny and beautiful San Francisco. Here's another TAXI listing, due this Thursday, where they are looking for lyrical theme composers (see full description below). http://www.summeroflovemusic.com/Circles.mp3 As always, comments and feedback are much appreciated. At this point, I'd like to know if I am on the right track (this was created entirely in Sibelius with EWQLSO and SC plugged in). If so, then I'll take it to Reaper for further tweaking and finetuning (I know there's some work to be done yet). Thanks, Peter ***************TAXI Dispatch*************** LYRICAL THEME COMPOSERS are sought by an established Film Composer who is joining forces with a well-known/veteran Music Supervisor to create a production music catalog for Film and TV. They are not looking to license tracks but are hoping to find talent that they can commission new work from. They are looking to collaborate with composers who have excellent programming skills, the newest sample libraries and a commanding knowledge of their own sounds and techniques to the point where they can turn around a complex assignment quickly. IMPORTANT: For this particular listing, they want to hear big swelling themes for string orchestra, choir which may be mixed with percussion. The programming and samples have to sound realistic and emotive. Vocals are OK as long as the lyrics are not clear and the voice is sung in an ambient type of way. Please submit 2-3 compositions online or per CD, include bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Noon (PST) on Thursday, February 5, 2009. TAXI #D090205LR |

Hey
Its a nice and well composed track. What i feel is kinda lack here is reverb. yes, there is reverb, but not as much as i wanted as a listener. it was also very centered, not so much stereo vibe. About the choirs in the very beginning, you can hear its a vst.. maybe try with less attack, so the vocals slowly drifts. just my opinion although i really havent produced any classical pieces yet, but mainly progressive trance and house.

Thanks for the feedback Sinfour.
This is the classical NI version of the orchestra, using mainly the full mike settings for the orchestra (except for the flute and clarinet). I'll see if I can better results by adding more mike settings or perhaps the Play powered version (though I am having trouble working with Play in Reaper right now and doubt that that will be resolved before Thursday). Will keep you posted. |

You manage to create the intended mood of this piece very nicely. Something I would consider changing; The choir has in my view a too hard attack and no natural breath. Try singing a syllable and then change to another as fast as humanly possible without breathing. That's how it sounds right now.
The flute sounds a bit fake with a very heavy vibrato on every note, including the short ones. Again, no breath. Try including some air in between the legato now and then to create some articulation. Also the repeated phrases seem copied and pasted because they sound exactly the same every time. The theme at 1:53 is very nice.

This is nice. The choir in the beginning needs to breathe, needs some more reverb, and you need to play with the attack a bit.
Really liked the last :15 or so. Cheers. |

I'm not sure about the choir at the beginning. I really liked the solo woodwind stuff and the string section at the end was solid enough. But overall I would say it lacks dynamics. There doesn't seem to be anywhere where any of the themes swell in the way that a big theme should. So overall it is a little light. It needs a bit more guts. If you see what I mean. That's the area I would work at if it was mine.
The music itself was not bad and in some places very good and you have definitely got something good to work with. (I've been a little more critical than usual because that's, I think, what you asked for.)
