Hi,
Can someone please explain what "6FH SUS 6 LAY", "6FH SUS 4 Lay", and "6FH 4 Lay Smooth" are supposed to be used for? I have searched these forums and also the users manuals to try and find and explanation, but to no avail. Also, as far as I can find, I see no other place where these types of articulations are available. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

It's 6 layers, 4 layers or whatever the number specified of velocity switched samples depending on the key pressure of the notes pressed. So it gives a more natural sounding embossed feel rather than just a straight raise in volume. Using the mod wheel as you play the patch increases the expressionism also.

As far as I can tell, the mod wheel seems to do nothing...
So i guess the difference between these patches and a dxf is the distinct velocity layers? How is this different that any other patch that uses several velocity layers (like many of the EWQLSO sounds do)?

I'm going to double-check my information here and get back to this topic. I wouldn't want to suggest wrong information.
The Mod wheel doesn't seem to do anything unless it's a MOD patch which would make sense. However without being able too see the actual of the mapping of the samples, it's anyone's guess what the answer is. One thing I noticed was the sound seemed to change accent the harder I pressed the keys with the loudest layer having a bit more rasp.

A small typo - I should have said it's 4 or 5 layers. There is up to 5 dynamic layers possible on some articulations. I'm wondering if the aftertouch function on MIDI devices has any effect on these samples

The 6 is the number of players
The 4 or 5 is the number of velocity layers Smooth means that some of the velocity layers overlap. No idea what lay is, tho. |

LAY = Layers, LYR = Lyrical. It tells you in the EWQLSO Bible.
