Are ews files and ewi files open-able? Will they be in the future?

I think you will be able to edit them to some degree when Play Pro comes out.

But most likely, not in other software than PLAY.

I can't imagine the sample files will ever be usable outside of Eastwest software. After all if they are paranoid enough to want to spend money on an iLok and the support that comes with that, they aren't going to then circumvent that security by simply allowing people to convert the samples to an unencrypted format.

Looking at Play Pro it is clear you'll be able to edit the EWI files, probably to your heart's content. Looks as though you can fully adjust mappings, filters, scripts, and so on. Wouldn't surprise me if they encouraged you to distribute them, as it can only increase the value of their products if people create new instrument combinations for the sample sets.

However I seriously doubt they'll be any opening of samples in an editor, if that is what you are after.
