Hello!
I saw that it is possible to increase the performance of Orchestra by installing it on two separate hard drives. How is this done? Is it worth doing this with other libraries in the composer's package? Thanks so much for your help! |

This depends which orchestra you are using. With Platinum/Platinum Plus this is possible, as you can install each of the four sections independently. If you are using Gold or Silver, thats one installation and one library folder, which we do not recommend splitting up.

It's the Gold version of orchestra from the complete composer's package, so it looks like this won't be an option. Thanks for the heads up! Looking forward to working with these libraries.

I have my Gold (Kontakt) installation and interface etc on C drive. And all samples on D drive. Jon Loving fixed this up for me. It requires editing the registry to enable communication, also to include communication with Sibelius. I couldn`t say what was specifically done by Jon.

Splitting the program files and sample files among drives is not the same as dividing the sample files among multiple drives. The installers allow for the former situation but I wouldn't recommend trying to split the Gold samples among multiple drives.

Would spreading SO Strings across two drives (on the same machine) make a big difference? If the drives are big enough, why not just copy the entire section to each and just load non-overlapping sections/patches from each? This would make a performance difference, right? I'm going to try it.

It wouldn't quote work that this as the sample patches (NKI or EWI) will link to a local folder on the same disc partition. You would need to reassign the location each time as the NKI file is read-only although you could reprogram the it as a new patch in Kontakt. Short answer, not worth the hassle.

I wanted to get the best performance I could from my EastWest libraries, and I had 2 spare internal hard disk slots in my computer. I added 2 WD black caviars (1TB) in a RAID 0 configuration, and loaded all my SO and other EastWest libraries onto those 2 Disks. This arrangement performs very well for me, and I am happy with it. But was that what you were trying to do?

New European legislation prevents me from answering that question without a lawyer and a priest present.
