Default windows 7 install issues

So I just received my new Win7 64bit PC, and I've been struggling to install my libraries so far...I installed the 64bit play upgrade first, as suggested, and seemed to get through VOP ok (havn't authorized or used yet on this pc), but symphonic choirs installer stopped copying files over on FTENRoh63.ews or something. So after retrying the install, and retrying manually copying the files over, I plugged in an old external drive that has the library to pull over the needed files, but I guess Win7 doesn't support WD hard drives (judging from what I've read online). So now I have to connect to my old mac, get the needed files from the external drive, zip them up, and yousendit.com them to myself.

Is it going to be this hard to install every library, and will I keep encountering stupid problems like these with 7? Also, it seems like any time I try to cancel a file transfer, windows explorer freezes. Anyone else have these problems? I'm seriously considering shipping back this pc and going back to mac (except its so damned expensive). Installing was a breeze on mac.

I installed 7 titles with no installation problems.
I think your problem may be related to your system somehow or possibly a defective dvd?

I had no problems installing on Win7 - the only thing I had to do was ensure I had UAC turned off before installing and it all worked fine.

I installed all the libraries without installing the PLAY engine and then installed the Win 7 PLAY update as a fresh install, telling it which libraries I had installed.

So far Windows 7 is the best version of Windows I've used (and I've used 'em all) for speed and responsiveness so it really does sound like there's some low-level problem with your installation.

In addition, I've used an external WD drive without any problem from my Win 7 PC. Although it is a network one, not a USB one.

Cheers,
Terry.

Thanks for the responses. I think it definitely had something to do with that specific DVD, as the others encountered limited problems. As I've proceeded, I've gotten used to the quirks and workarounds I had to do. I guess its just an adjustment process. Everything seems to be installed now, just have to authorize, install cubase 5, and cross my fingers now

Oh yeah, and the WD firewire drives I tried to use would not be recognized, but the USB drive I had ended up working fine.
