HELP!

Hello, I just installed the EWQL Complete Composer Collection. I cannot get any sound from any of the softwares. I have tried to adjust everything, but so far, no luck. My hardware quwstion is, do I need an outside program(Cubase) to record, or can this software record independently? Did I misunderstand "standalone"?
