Default EWQL SO Gold: "How To Eat One's Favourite Past-time"

Hi folks,

This is my first posting here.

This is an excerpt of the central piece from the film 'The Rainbow Kite'. I would've loved to enter it in the April competition, but - alas - it includes a non-EWQL instrument (the piano).

Working title is "How To Eat One's Favourite Past-time", copyright © Jason Paris, 2006.

Hope it does sumfin for you.

Jason

Hi Jason, very nice job, you really pulled out the stops on this one !
[I would've loved to enter it in the April competition, but - alas - it includes a non-EWQL sample (the piano).
And it´s not really what you would call "romantic" either, but it is very exciting!!! keep at it ! Chris

Hi Jason,

very nice cue, well orchestrated and live sounding.
Are you playing a live piano here? If yes you can enter a contest (actual instruments are allowed), but this cue is not a romantic piece, so anyhow you can't enter this month.

Cheers

Hi Jason,

Very clean sound and great orchestration! But a little bit too unromantic for this month’s competition I guess

Well done.

Frakir.

Thank you.....very kind.

Yes, it's a live piano.

Interestingly, while this excerpt doesn't *sound* romantic (whatever "romance" sounds like??), the film-scene it accompanies portrays images & activities of friendship......which surely is a *type* of romance??

Specifically, the scene shows two friends launching a kite in to the sky. Once airborne, a "signaller" is released on the kite's line. The signaller climbs and climbs until it hits a marker near the base of the kite.

The signaller then releases its counter-weight (a packet of chewing gum); the weight falls to the feet of a little boy who's been looking on, mesmerised.

The kite's handler goes to retrieve the weight. But realising how much the little boy wants the packet of gum, he generously hands it over......and much delight ensues!

So yes, it's *kinda* romantic.

All the best,

Jason

Dear Roberto,

Thank you for your kind words.

You may enjoy reading what TAXI just had to say about this piece, when I submitted it for possible inclusion in an orchestral Music Library:

Overall Comments:

Greetings Jason, The piece demonstrates solid craft as far as composition and scoring, so you're in good shape in those areas. I think the main aspect to develop at this point--at least as far as this sort of pitch--is the use of higher quality synth/sampler parts that will more convincingly evoke the sound of an actual orchestra.

I advise further refinement of the MIDI parts so they have greater expression and a wider range of articulations so as to more closely evoke the effect of actual human players.
The piece could perhaps suit the pitch if it sounded less synthy.

One way of achieving a more expressive & realistic orchestral emulation is to use a variety of samples/patches for certain instruments; esp. strings, to simulate the wide range of articulations, attacks, vibrato, tremolo, pizzicato, etc. that are often featured in a typical orchestral track.

The main reason you were or were not forwarded for this listing is:
the tracks could sound less synthy.

Keep up the good work & all best to you.

Well, I confess I'm gobsmacked. The tracks could sound "less synthy"???!!!
