Hey guys,
My x79 machine is finished and lovely, streaming HW strings from my SATA lll crucial M4 in it's true SATA lll port is great, no string takes more than 10 seconds to load. Unfortunately the Asus P9x79 Pro only has two SATA lll ports, the rest are SATA ll. Will I see bottlenecks if I stick a new SATA lll ssd in the SATA ll port? On paper there is a bottle neck, 250mb vs 500mb read speeds, but I'm unsure of how quickly the software allows the strings to be streamed anyways, so it may be irrelevant in this case. Fortunately I have a lot of PCe 3.0 slots for the future, but those SSDs will be pricey, so it's SATA ll slots for now! Thanks! |

Yes the bottleneck with be reflected just as it is on paper (unless the quality of the SATA II connection is poor, and you will see even worse performance).

It will run at about half the speed yes.

What I thought was weird is that my motherboard has 6 SATA 3 and only 2 SATA 2 ports.
