The strings are not sounding natural at the beginning, choir is sounding good but they are drowned out by the orchestra which is often too loud. It doesnīt sound very melodic either, Iīve heard you do much better work, sorry if it all sounds a bit negative. Chris

Chris,
I always appreciate a lot your comments, no doubt that you have a good trained ears and lot of experience in music, thanks. With respect to the mix, I find compensated the volume of the orchestra and the choirs, in this piece are both protagonists, question of appreciation, I think. I know that every work cannot be a ten out of ten, but I wanted to experiment a, not that different or original aproach to sound, that is: repeated notes in the choir, pedal chords in disonance, Maj 7 Chords and a more textural than melodic aproach. That techniques are new for me but not for some of the composers of the late 20 century. Again thanks a lot for being sincere with your opinions, it is the only way to help people that are still learning, like me. (BTW, I love the sound of your sax) Cheers Luis Last edited by luima; 07-05-2006 at 10:36 AM. |

I would recommend the strings in the beginning cresendo.
As far as the piece, the structure of it I can't seem to find in my ears. It kinda wanders around. Whenever somebody asks for criticism, I'm not sure if they want on the realism or the writing. So I though I'd give both. Apologies if you didn't want the latter. |

You donīt have to apologize, I appreciate your criticism because what you say is what you really think. You are right in the crescendo, It was my intention but maybe is to slow. For me has been in the last year a complete study of 20 century music and I have to recognize that most of them didnīt fit in my ears for the first listenings, but now I find it more understandable. I really wrote intentionally this piece the way it sounds, you can like it or not. Thanks again. Luis Last edited by luima; 07-05-2006 at 11:39 AM. |

Hi luis,
I enjoyed this music at it's top. I think it's the best work you've done till now. Chris and Nathan are both right. It goes wandering and the orchestral balance may seem not quiet... but the phrases are clear, and easy listening. But I think life is like that. Emotions too. Events too. I didn't feel the slightest difficulty hearing it at the first time, nore twice, nore more. But evey time I found more intentions, more research, more seekings. I don't know if my english is good enough... but that's what I personnaly search while listening more music. You'll certainly be in progress. Welcome to Hell, my friend! Mayer |

Hi,
I just agree with the comments before and must add one more thing The strong sound of the horns did not fit in here. But the piece is interesting and worth hearing some more times ... Cheers Dietmar |

Hi, I think the "non pitched consonants" (s, t) are to loud. I would decrease the volume in the Voice window in WordBuilder.
Thanks for sharing your music! - Matteo

Mayer,
Thanks for your listen and your comments. The hard work that requires every new piece is worth even if only a single person gets the sense of the piece. For me, music is like life, you have to go in the forward direction and maybe you do not arrive anywhere, but the just the travel makes the sense. So a piece of music can make sense even if it doesnīt reach any climax or conclusion and it is just a series of wanders from one emotion to another. Hope to hear from your music soon. Luis |

Dietmar,
Nice to hear your advice. I have to confess you that the first sketches the line of the horns was performed by clarinets, so your feeling is very close to my first intention. Later I introduced the horns, maybe too loud (bright patch), with the intention of destroy the too much intimate ambient that was generated in the other way. Thanks for your listen and for your help. Luis |
