In the instrument list for Gypsy, it says there's a "Spanish Steel string Guitar"
Im extremely familiar with the history of the guitar in Spain, and the guitar in general. And ive never heard of any such thing, ever. So im just wondering, what the hell are they talking about? A lute? A baroque guitar? I cant imagine what they mean. This is a strange family of instruments. Though hot club jazz and flamenco both trace back to gypsies, they are completely and totally unrelated genres. All the other new Play libs, have a mix'able family of instruments. Gypsy may be well sampled im sure, but maybe a tad illconcieved as far as choice of instruments, and mixing them in this way. Still, i cant wait to hear the demos. But the ILOK will keep my from buying for at least another year.

spanish STEEL string guitar?
LOL ouuchhhh I hope they recorded all samples before the neck could bend over to kiss the bridge. maybe they invented a new instrument? so far I haven't heard any sampled (non amplified) guitar sounds that don't sound completely fake. at least in the pieces I heard. glad if EWQL would be the first! but seriously, if they wanted to sample an accoustic guitar "realistically" I think it would need more space than those 5 pianos together. well, I'm a guitarist, a percussionist would feel the same about percussion.

Possibly that in the pics below?
It's a folk baroque guitar used to accompany singing. It keeps five steel courses all the same diameter, usualy tuned E B G D A --------------------------------- I o --------IV-o------------------- ----II-o------------------------- V o ------III-o----------------------- ---------------------------------- This is the only steel strings guitar I know, besides acoustic, electric, dobros (greek buzouki and renassaince cittern are steel mounted, but actually they belong to the lutes family). All the other guitars were/are gut or nylon mounted. Or is it simply a classical or a flamenco guitar provided with steel strings instead of nylon?

Gypsy music is very diverse as gypsies can be found all over Europe. Flamenco is not part of the Gypsy tradition, but does that mean it needed to be excluded from this title? "Gypsy" is just a title. I could have called it "Gypsy, Flamenco, dudes that play guitars that sound kind of Spanish and other dudes that play classical as well as Gypsy". Is that better?

I found this duo who plays really aggressive spanish guitar music. One of the artists uses a guitar with steel strings that I liked the sound of. I think it may be a Martin. So we sampled it being played the way he plays.

The patch "Spanish Steel String Guitar" is not referred to a steel mounted spanish guitar, but to an acoustic steel strings guitar played in spanish style (usually played by nylon flamenco guitars). Right? Thanks Nick. Enrico
