Default Memory problem

Hi Guys,
I have an issue with RAM memory in Cubase SX3. I think that 8.5 GB RAM is more then enough for anything therefore, I am not sure what is going on.
The message that I get after loading so many instruments is:
WARNING: memory is getting low.
This may cause dropouts or other afterfacts

One of the things that I heard is that Cubase SX3 is limited to 1.7 or 1.8 or 2.6 GB, therefore that maybe it? If true, then what can I do to get over this problem. Is there any other solution but to cut down on instruments in my template project

FYI I post this question in other forum as well.

Your feedback will be highly appreciated

In 32-bit Windows (which you probably have), no application is capable of using more than 2 GB of your RAM, regardless of how much you have total. If you want to get past this restriction, you need a 64-bit OS, but this can lead to compability problems with your music apps until they are all updated with this in mind.

Until then, you *must* install and configure DFD if you're using Kompakt, which I assume you are. If you don't use DFD you'll only be able to load a couple of instruments before your computer chokes, if even that. DFD lets you load only parts of the instrument into RAM, while the rest is streamed from your HD when needed. This should take care of most of your RAM issues.

I had that happened with me when I was making a piece of music with 2 silver SO vsti's loaded with 16 instruments.

Especially the keyswitched instruments like the clarinet, strings and flute are making a difference here I think..

It chokes and then I had to restart and freeze one instrument, but i said that in another thread too as part of a PLAY question...

I'm going to try and cutomize DFD to see if the problem can be solved.

As I understand it it's really the disk streaming that will choke the computer rather than the large memory usage on itself... ?

Maybe having full sata 2 capabilities on my mother board would be able to solve the problem

I think I know what the problem is. After all Cubase SX3 is limited to 2 GB more or less. I was looking at the application memory usage and soon as it get up to 2 GB window popup giving warning low memory. In that way I am sure the the Cubase SX3 is limited even if the OSX is 64 bit. I just hope that there will be some update or upgrade for SX3 so we can go over 2 GB. I wouldn’t like to spend another grand for C4.

Any other opinions?

Long Address Awareness hack, which will attempt to make sure that your 32bit apps can see and use more than 2GB of RAM

Upgrade to C4 from SX3 is about $200 and well worth it, though It won't fix your memory problem.
