selling on itunes

I don't know if it's a stupendous undertaking for a beginner or not but there's a bunch of tracks that I'm making for a theatre show and I would like to sell it as an album on itunes.

I once got a link on how to sell music on itunes but i've tried to search on the net with the string sell+own+music+itunes and i get all sorts of links except a clear guide or link from apple...

Does anyone have more experience with it ?

One way is to put everything on a CD, submit it to CD Baby, and have them do it for you. You'll not only get your stuff on iTunes, but on pretty much every other service.

That's how I did it, anyway.

ah, cool idea: I mailed them.

Do you actually need to press your own cd's and send it to thhem ? or can you choose for digital (itunes) distribution only and just provide some covers and the music. ?

You do need to press a CD of some sort, even if it's just a one-off CD Rom. It's explained here.

Here's the relevant part (copied from their site):

1. Burn one finished mastered copy of your music on to a regular audio CD-R. (NO mp3, aiff, or wav. Just regular audio CD.)
2. Sign it up at CD Baby like any other album.
3. Pay the $35 setup cost, and if you don't have your own unique barcode for this new album, have us make you one for $20.
4. Mail that one CD to us, with a note explaining that it is for digital distribution only.
5. Email a 1000-by-1000 pixel TIFF file (RGB, no compression) to fixes@cdbaby.com, for us to use as the album cover/artwork.
6. We will add it to our CD Baby system, like any other album, except it will be permanently out of stock on cdbaby.com.
7. We digitize it and distribute it to all of the usual digital distribution outlets.
8. Voila! There's your digital-only release.

loool, hehe.. (just find it funny that my topic should do this for everyone, maybe it will do thsi for me too: but that cd of mine is a sound track for a theatre show, and should be out in may :P

Anyway, i've mailed them and i saw on the site to maake 5 cd's yes. no big deal

PS: jeez, this is really heavy classical study material And i meen 'jeez', in a positive way because it has to be understood more than the music that I make which is much more easy listening. And to compose this, you must have those kinds of melodies in your head and I appreciate that
